To get the list I used several college rankings sources to first evaluate the top schools (in the United States) and from those lists I researched each institution's online or distance learning department. I listed every school that offers either an online accounting certificate, an online associates degree in accounting, or a four year bachelors degree in accounting -- all offered entirely online. From this research I have compiled a list of top ranking schools that offer some type of accounting degree fully available online. I compiled this list in the beginning of 2010. Some of the schools may have dropped their accounting programs by the time you read this. It is an almost, absolute certainty that even more colleges and universities have added online accounting programs since I compiled the list, as the demand is very high. If you begin your search with my list (you might want to bookmark this page) please don't end with it. Spend a week or two searching for your perfect online accounting program. You wouldn't get married after knowing someone for just a few hours, why would you only spend a few hours searching for the right college? You'll be tied to your online accounting program for two to four years; take the time to find the best one for you.
