Make New Friends But Keep the Old
One is Silver and the Other is Gold
Hi,
I'm Mary Mary.
Well, my parents call me Mary, but my friends call me Mary Mary. I'm not even sure how that got started. Maybe, I only answered them after they yelled at me twice.
I've lived in small town Oregon almost my entire life. The people here are rugged, sometimes sweet and sometimes mean. But mostly they are just good neighbors. The thing about Oregon though, is everywhere you go -- there is another fantastic view. I love it here!
I'm newly married to a guy that just got his degree at EOU in Math ed. and I'm taking my English Lit degree, (mostly) online.
I have found that online college is still in it's early days and there are a lot of pitfalls for students who are unaware of all the ins and outs.
Anyway, online college is new territory, so my lifelong friend, Renee and I, are making a website that helps other online students do better than we did when we first started. We each have flunked a few online courses because we didn't know how to handle our new online school.
In fact, every online student I know has flunked a few courses. But you don't have to. That's why I'm here.
I hope you write to me and tell me about your online college experiences. Lets be friends.
Mary Mary
About Renee
Hi,
I'm Renee.
When Mary Mary approached me about doing this website I thought - NO WAY! Because, I'm already very busy at work. But, she kept bugging me, so here I am.
We've been friends since 3rd grade, when we used to sit in the back of the classroom giggling, until Mary Mary wet her pants. Sorry Mary Mary. ha ha
I have taken a few online courses, and I really enjoyed the experience, but my main reason for helping out here is because my job is counseling college bound high school kids.
I work with high school kids every day, helping them figure out what their strengths and weaknesses are - what they would be good at, and most importantly, enjoy - and what programs fit their goals. I have to do this, keeping in mind, most kids do not have the financial resources to attend college without help.
Most kids have to take a step-up approach, where they work AND go to school, each year improving their take home pay, until finally, they reach their end goal. But more about this later.
Mary Mary convinced me that my working knowledge would be invaluable to the people out there who are looking for online programs - and to tell you the truth - I really enjoy researching the online college and certificate programs. Not only does it help me at work - but I'm convinced that within five years - on campus and online paradigms will converge. Every college student will be taking some form of an online course.
This is a very exciting time for education - and I'm glad to be a part of it.
If you write to me with questions about programs that might fit your dreams and goals - I'll do my best to find the best out there for you.
Never stop dreaming. And never give up. You can do it!
Renee
