Understand Time to Manage Time

Time itself is a big, chaotic, messy MESS.   It is not the tidy, linear arrangement you've been led to believe.  It folds back on itself!

It careens off into nowhere and jolly well fibs, wall-to-wall, about the whole show. You really can't trust it for anything.

As a child, this is what you thought of Father Time...

I have more depressing shockers:

You are never going to create the perfect system to organize the time you've been given.  N-E-V-E-R.

The best you can do is create small victories here and there.

That's how you create success, by piling up small victories.

7 Best Time Management Tips You've Heard a Million Times

(But these really are THE BEST.)

1 - Track Your Time

You can't manage what you don't measure.
Here are three useful time tracking tools:
Manic Time
Rescue Time

2 - Go To Bed Early - Get Up Early

Early to bed, early to rise.
Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

Rising early allows you a quiet space to plan.  Planning allows you to accomplish more in less time.

Also, Father Time sleeps until 9 or 10.  Avoidance is victory.  Many times.

3 - Organize Your Workspace

Organize your work at the end of the day. Have a place for everything and keep everything in its place.

Create good work flow, not good looking but unusable space.   Know the difference.

Looks messy - but is usefully organized.

Looks messy? Or... is messy.

Your task.

4 - Delegate

Deciding your time is more valuable than someone else's is the day you become a true Time Management Warrior.

Your life is short.  Act accordingly.

5 - Use a Tickler File and Feed The Shark

Use the simple technology of filing to remember things that need to be done next week, next month and next year.  File it, forget it.

Don't make your brain work on things it doesn't need to.

The file shark will let you know when it's time to deal.

6 - Write Those Goals Down

The simple act of recording your goals helps ensure that you won't get distracted.  It boosts your willpower and your determination.

Just write them down. You'll see.

7 - Imitate Success

Do you know someone who is highly efficient and organized? Imitate them. Ask them questions. Pick their brains. Spend time observing their methods.

It takes sustained effort to learn the nuances of time management. Review and renew your efforts.

Your time is your most precious asset. Put it to work for you. Go for small victories. Pile them up.
